Librarian
SOUTH AFRICAN LIBRARY FOR THE BLIND
EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY
The South African Library for the Blind (SALB) through Sheldon Recruitment, invites applications from suitably qualified candidates who are South African citizens for the following position to commence on 1 October 2022 or earlier:
LIBRARIAN
This position renders functions relating to library services within a specialized library, serving persons with visual impairments nationally. The small size of the Library & Information Services (LIS) team ensures a wide exposure in terms of library roles and responsibilities for this position. Areas such as member registrations and liaison, record management, outreach and library marketing services, cataloguing, and other related services are attended to in this position. The ideal candidate will be fluent in English and a first language speaker in at least one African language. This is in support of our focus of improving services to members in all spoken official languages in South Africa. The position reports to a Snr Librarian. Interactions with SALB members are mainly telephonic or online and occasionally face to face.
Minimum Requirements & Attributes
Degree or Higher-level qualification in Library and Information Science with a minimum of 2 years library work experience. Computer literacy in the MS Office suite and practical work experience in terms of a computerized Library Management System. Good knowledge of Cataloguing and classification rules will be advantageous. We are seeking an energetic, ambitious individual with high literacy levels and good subject knowledge. Strong interpersonal, administration and communication skills in English and at least one African language indigenous to South Africa.
Remuneration
Annual Basic Salary around R273 384 per annum (This excludes the value of other salary related fringe benefits)
