SALB celebrates Mandela Month with Efata School for the Blind
The South African Library for the Blind Senior Librarian: Outreach and Member Liaison Ms Vuyo Mandongana spearheaded a programme at Efata School for the Blind in Mthatha to end of Mandela Month with a bang. The programme seeks to encourage learners to read. As part of the programme, Ms Khuselwa Mzangwe from SALB, (who is a former learner at Efata School for the Blind), provided much needed oversight on the reading ability of the learners and how this was important for the young ones. Two other former learners who are now working for the Department of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture were also invited to form part of the programme. Mr Makhi Mfengu and Mr Malathisi Majija also gave the learners words of inspiration as they have also been where the learners are and made something of themselves. Mr Lungisa Ngqolovu, the emcee on the day, is also a former learner. Ngqolovu was part of the recent Literacy Festival recently.
