Braille Training conducted in the Northern Cape
The South African Library for the Blind and the Northern Cape Department of Sport, Arts and Culture has committed into providing Braille Training for children and adults that are print-handicapped. The purpose of this workshop is to improve the lives of our library members; though braille/literacy skills thus contributing to the socio-economic development of these users as they would be able to read and write. The teaching of contracted (simple) braille is an important step in preparing prospective learners to use contracted braille. Attendees will learn the letters of the alphabet, punctuation, and numbers, prior to learning contracted braille (that is shorter braille). The outcome of the course is that attendees can read and write uncontracted braille, facilitating the skill of living with blindness, for example by making of CD’s, writing a note, reading a book etc.
