the SALB’s new website
a great step towards improving access
The South African Library for the Blind (SALB) is proud to introduce to you its new and improved website. The Library commenced with a process of aligning all its marketing and communication material during 2009. Part of this initiative included a new logo and slogan – We are all on the same page – which was launched during June 2009. The new website has been updated to reflect these changes and to bring it into line with the Library’s corporate colours and marketing media.
The main reason behind redeveloping the website was to improve access to our products, services and information for our members. With this in mind, the Library followed the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) developed as part of the Web Accessibility Initiative by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). The guidelines are based on four principles which make Web content accessible to people with disabilities, namely perceivable, operable, robust and understandable.
The Library regards the new website as a very dynamic communication tool. Improvements will be made as we interact with it and as we receive feedback from our members and other users of the site.
Visitors to the website will have access to a variety of formal publications, policies, reports and documents. Visitors will be able to read about the history of the Library as well as how we are structured and functioning today.
Contact details and the names of the staff are available to make it possible for direct contact, if necessary. The latest news and upcoming events will also be made available for people to share and participate where possible.
We wish to invite all our members and other visitors to explore our new website and to take a few minutes to send us your views and comments. This will enable us to make the website more than just another site on the Internet. We would ultimately like to develop it into a useful and interactive communication medium, which will enable us to say: ‘We are all on the same page!’
A new line
